For cool nights in the Spring/Fall, a leather jacket is a great option. Many men don't have transition jackets and are still wearing their winter coats in May. I've even seen guys still rocking their Canada Goose jackets. Not cool....literally and figuratively.
As for fit, it should not be baggy. Leather stretches which not only adds to its comfort, but also its worn/rugged look. However, you don't want it to look like like you are being swallowed whole by the cow. Get it fitted so it can comfortably fit a hoodie/sweater underneath for layering opportunities.
Finally, never, and I mean NEVER, choose a pleather jacket. You can try to convince yourself that it looks real, but trust me, it doesn't.
